As a single mother, Sandy* says The Victim Center was a life-line to her and her girls. She said the moment she knew things would be okay was when she “first saw her daughters smile again.”
For most of us, the holidays evoke a time of family, happy memories, and security. However, for some people in our community, those moments can be shattered in an instant. Sandy found herself in this type of situation when her two daughters disclosed to her that their stepfather had been sexually abusing them for several months.
Devastated by the news, Sandy reached out to The Victim Center’s 24-hour hotline for help. An advocate with The Victim Center walked Sandy through the next steps, which included reporting the abuse to the authorities and setting up counseling at The Victim Center.
Sandy and the girls also had to testify in court – a very scary thing to do – and The Victim Center helped the family prepare for this process through its educational Kids Court program.
As you contemplate your holiday giving, please consider supporting our 24-hour services by sponsoring a “Day of Hope” for $238 in honor or in memory of someone on your gift list. Or you can choose to donate an amount that is right for you. Your gift will be life-changing, and will bring hope and healing for people like Sandy and her daughters.
